Tax is money the goverment take out of your pay to pay for roads, hospitals ect. ect.
So if the tax was 1%, and you earned 20,000 a year, they would reduct 200 pounds/dollars a year/month to spend needed things, one of those is free hospitals (Uk) |

Tax is money the people in the UK have to pay back into the government on almost everything to fund free things such as NHS (national health service) so it can be improved and be provided for anyone. Same goes for other things. say you got a job and you got £150 you would pay about £30 of that in taxes or whatever they see fit to take from you. We can moan about it but really its for our own good because paying for doctors anywhere else is very expensive. We are quite lucky in many ways.
