Why do people who have a child get a tax deduction for the same work that a person who is childless did?
They both may work at the same job and did the same amunt of work and recieved the same pay.

The rationale is that the raising of children is good for society - so must be supported by all, whether or not you have children. That is the reason too why the tax system pays for schools, not just the parents. Other people's children will be supporting you in your elderly years, right?

Maybe they are getting the same pay, but think of it this way: the one with the child is basically sharing her paycheck, so she's only using half of what she earned for herself. So, her taxes wouldn't be the same as if she didn't have the child.

It costs more to provide food and shelter for a child. A person with a child is spending and using more $$.

mrfoxhorn
Because the tax laws say they can.

They have more expenses, so in reality, their net profit is lower than a single person's is.

Good boy
Because if you have a child you spend more amount of money

rwerfelman
Any idea how expensive a child is? Just the health care costs they pay fro having that child is far greater than the tax deduction they receive. Now don't run out and have kids.

mia_bia82
Ask your parents and you'll find out

mominshoe
It cost to raise a child. They get breaks to help them with the expenses. You'll understand when you become a parent.
They are not clothed, fed, schooled for free.
