Why do prices increase every year?
Its an outrage it really is.The local butchers at the top of my street used to charge £1:20 for a savaloy sandwhich this was 4 years ago now it costs £1:60 for a savaloy sandwhich? Is it just greed or what? They use exactly the same fillings and buns and methods of making the sandwhich.Everything increases in price the only thing that hasnt is a penny chewing gum

Because all we are doing is funding the millionaires and making them richer.

I consider what we have, compared to what our parents had at our ages, or our grandparents, and clearly wages HAVE gone up a lot faster than prices over the long haul.

However, things have clearly gone backwards in the last few years, according, to, well, everyone I talk to!

Most people may be earning a bit more, but have seen their costs go up faster (in the South East, particularly council tax as the government have taken away money they used to give to the councils.... and electricity.)

Business profits AREN'T particularly up over the last few years. What IS massively up is the amount of tax that we (whether individuals or business owners) have to pay.

However....

... what did you pay for your mobile phone bill 4 years ago?

... what did a DVD player cost 4 years ago?

... what did a microwave cost 4 years ago?

A lot of things have come down in price dramatically.

buy the meat from the butcher, bread from the bakery and butter from the dairy, guaranteed to cut your costs... .

i.e. make your own sandwiches, theres a lot worse going on in the UK than lunchtime rip offs... .

well u cant blame it on them because everything they have to buy is more expensive as well. The meat, bread, energy, rent etc is all more expensive. I agree its an outrage as living expensive become more expensive rapidly, but salaries hardly increase. I just think ur blaming the wrong person in this case.....

welcome to rip off Britain!

Don't you Brits keep getting more paid time off and better mandated raises every year?

Do you think that businesses just magically have extra money that falls in their laps to pay for it?

Don't forget that when it comes to food we are now competing against buyers from China & India, and those countries have 3 BILLION mouths to feed.

Hang on my British friend, it is only going to get worse for us all.

Its economics , simple supply and demand , you complain when your sandwich goes but not when your wages increase , everything is relative in one way , 40 yrs ago if you had a PC capable of doing what you do to day it would have being worth millions , not every thing increases ,

i noticed that.i go to tescos and evreything creeps up a few pennys each a week they think we dont notice.if the ingredients cost more for them to buy fair enough but our paypackets stay the same.

Inflation dictates price increases its just a fact of life. Things get dearer, but as inflaton rises so does the minimum wage.

Most good employers offer pay raises each year inline with inflation

I can guarantee your gum is now smaller, or that a price hike is on it's way.
Transport is a major factor ; Diesel was around 80p a litre 5 years back now it's almost 30p more, flour has gone up by a huge amount this last year too, due to bad weather / harvests, and rent tends to also go up by an alarming rate.
Your saveloy sarnie seems to be a bargain.
You'd have to ask Gordon Brown why everything has gone up, and why it increases all the time.
Economics was never my strong point, but then again it was never his.

I hate Hillary Clinton
They gotta keep up with the ever rising cost of living in the United States as well so they can afford international investments.

It's happening here in the US a lot.

Some prices go down, eg house prices this coming year.
