Tax Credits is just because you have kids. You're allowed earnings of up to £60,000 as long as you and your partner work 30 hours or more a week combined.
Obviously the more your combined earnings are, the less you get, although this is capped at £20,000
See the url below for more info. |

Child Tax Credit is for people who have children and earn under a certain amount per year. If your income exceeds the limit, you are no longer entitled. It is highly unlikely that just by getting a part time job that they would stop paying the benefit entirely but they may reduce the amount you get. |

All of your question has been answered very well here. But they have changed the age you get the Tax Credit for children. It now is paid up till they are in their 19th year of age and if they go to college. Once they leave college or start work it then is cancelled out. I stop getting mine very soon and I won't get any working tax credit as I earn too much. Oh and make sure you notify them of any change to income either up or down otherwise you may find you owe them money. |

CTC & WTC are the most complicated things know to man! We get it, but when my hubbie got a raise, I rang to tell them, thinking they would cut it, but they gave us more. And then they overpay you some, and take it back!! ITS MADNESS I TELL YOU! |

Why? Because if you earn under £66.000 a year and have kids in full-time education (could be a few £1000's out either way), the Welfare State in all its wisdom says you are entitled to a top up. Obviously the ones below school age don't need to be in full-time education for you to get it :-) |

it would depend on how much your part time job would bring in, it may bring your child taxcredit down shilghtly or you may loose it altogether it just depends on your personal circumstances, id ring them and ask how much you could earn before your child tax credit was reduced |

anyone with kids can get child tax credit, wether you work or not, but it is income related. so if you start earning more your payments may be reduced.for a 2 child family if your combined income goes over £57,785 youll lose your entitlement(the limit is £65,965 if one of your kids is under 1). they will also give you up to 70% of chidcare costs (again income dependent). check out taxcredits.direct.gov.uk, or you can ring them up for info. my sister managed to get someone at the jobcentre to work out exactly what shed get if she started working (you may find that overall youll end up about £20 a week better off, not counting the fact you may have to drive or bus to work etc. so check it all out before you start) |

you always get to take the child tax as long as they are under 16 years of age. I believe once they hit 16 or 17 the credit goes way down. Which is a shame because as most of us know teenagers are pretty exspensive :) |
