Why does my employer pay me on the 5th and 20th?
Just curious why it's not every other Friday, or the 1st and 15th, which seems more conventional, IMO. Is there some benefit to paying employees on the 5th and 20th? It sure makes paying bills hard that are due at the beginning of the month!

Because he chose to pay you then, pure and simple. Pay the bills that fall due on the 1st from the paycheck of the 20th. Look at it the other way -- you have 10 days to cover those bills on time.

If you are paid for the first and second halves of the month on those days, that gives them time to get all of the info together and processed by the payday.

chatsplas
If you look at checks, probably close on 30/31 and 15th, and they have week to process them, get them out. They can choose when and how to pay you.

Steve
Because that is the date that your employer chose to pay all of the employees. Your employer only wants to do payroll 24 times a year.

To pay bills that are due at the beginning of the month, you should be using the paycheck that you receive on the 20th to pay the bills at the beginning of the next month.

John F
The Employer selects the pay period cycle. Some pay weekly (52 x a year), others pay bi-weekly (26 x a year) and others like your employer pay bi monthly (24 x a year). Since you are paid 24 x a year your pay check is larger than you would of recieved if you were pay weekly. However, you'll need to budget your expenses more from pay check to pay check. Or you'll be short until your next pay check,

Its up to you to manage your personal finances regardless of payday dates.

Employer's get to make those rules. Generally, they need some lead time to compute the withholding and prepare the checks. They don't use a magic wand, it requires some work. And that generally requires some lead time

sarha_96
its just the way they do it where you work. Where I work currently we get paid on the 10th and 25th
