Property is taxable income so it needs to be linked to your national insurance number. You should always ask your solicitor these kind of questions- if you are not satisfied with his answer politely enquire of another one to check his reasons out.

If you are buying a house why is it bothering you?,its the biggest buy in your life and your worried that the solicitor needs you national insurance number!
Maybe, just maybe you should be worried more about whats going to go on with interest rates!!!!

He probably wants to check your nationality in case you are English as it's probably law that you can't buy the house if a foreigner wants it
