Becaus eit has to pay for so much, especially education, environment, parks, libraries, local roads etc. etc.
If you are really interested and want to get a shock ask your local council what it is costing them to fund the pensions of schoolteachers! Because they have index linked pensions the cost is rocketing.

There are a few reasons as to why the Council Tax , is so expensive
Yes Councils are greedy , but after all they are Local Govenment
The Tax goes up , the services go down and why only they know
I know they waist a lot of money on entertaining and redecorating there buildings , not forgetting the wage bill
Why they are not accountable to the public , one should be asking , after all it's our money they are spending , not theres |

Wouldn't we all be better off if the councils recruited those people within there boroughs who are in receipt of jobseekers allowance to carry out there tasks. After all, we are paying them anyway. Perhaps 3 days aweek, so they still have time for job search. |

Unfortunately a lot is down to immigration translators integration funds, the rise has to take into account the expected rise of immigrants and strain on housing health education etc also about 5% is wasted on silly left wing ideas, the cost of paying two to three people to do the same job, pensions.
A councillor friend of mine once stated if it was not for the cost of immigrants we would be getting a substantial cut in our taxes. follow this link it may just interest you
