Why is my Child & Dependent care credit =$0! TaxAct.?
I paid close to $7000 for son's preschool but TaxAct software gives me $0 credit. I have entered all the info correctly.
I know the minimum child credit in my situation should be $600.
(I think TurboTax also has the same problem.)

where is everybody?
divorced? could it have been filed by ex?

After calculating our taxes on Tax Act, my husband and I could not believe what they calculated was correct. we sucked it up and took it to a professional.

Yes, it ended up costing us quite a bit of money but it more than made up for itself. We got back over triple what Tax Act told us we would get back.

Will never use Tax Act again!

Probably because you don't have any tax liability to offset.

How old is your son?
How did you pay for this?
How much is your taxable income before taking any credits?

Mark S
Its possible that other credits already reduce your tax liability to zero. If so, you will not get the Dependent Care Credit as it is not refundable.

Credits reduce you tax liability in the order entered on the form.

You might be at your maxium for deductions for your income.

What probably happened here is that your standard deductions are STILL bigger than your itemized deductions. In which case your itemized deductions basically wouldn't matter. My donations to charity didn't matter because my standard deduction was bigger than my itemized (ie charity, child care expenses)

anna!
go to hr block....they gave us the most out of every tax program we could have used

I had this same issue. When I filled out the 2441 form completely by hand, found out that TaxAct was correct. My wife made $0 last year, so these child care expenses are not deductible. Just my 2 cents to maybe help you.
