ciggies are taxed higher to discourage use and they harm you, gas is taxed less as it is a widely used and relied up commodity
FYI - they make more on low taxes for gas due to mass use, less on ciggies due to declined and limited use.
And to those who say gas should be taxed higher because its bad for the environment - thats BS. You will revolt against the governemtn the second you see it costs you 2x as much to drive, take a taxi, ship a package, fly, ride the bus, property taxes increase cause of downloaded costs from police, fire and ambulance, etc, etc, etc...its way more than just you driving around, a ton of businesses will have to pay more and will put people out of work... |

Gasoline is a key part of the economy, society, and life in general. Increasing the taxes on it hurts the economy since everyone needs it. They can have really high taxes on cigarettes because people who smoke are going to buy them no matter what because they're addicted. |

Gas causes way more harm????
It gets us all to work everyday. It heats our homes. It drives our economy. Increasing its cost makes life harder for many people.
Cigs on the other hand have no useful purpose. Except to cost us billions in health care. Increasing its cost helps to defray the cost to care for all the sickness it causes. |

Also, cigaretes are not a necessity... transportation IS! And gasoline is the best fuel we have right now. |
