First, and most obvious reason, its the law, and you will get in trouble if you dont.

Taxes pay for all the things that society needs, like roads, schools, police. Part of being in society means paying for your share.

I guess you could construct a society where everyone only pays for what they use and there is no shared pot (tax), but what would you do for things like police? Pay an officer by the hour to hunt just for the criminal who broke into your house?
