If I'm ill, I use the same crappy NHS service as anyone else. Even someone on benefits. My council tax is the same for me as for anyone in my borough, I pay the same amount in my appartment as the guy who lives in a 2m appartment up stairs, we both use the same garbage disposal, street lighting etc as anyone else
Why then, if I use the same services as everyone else, do I pay 6 figures per year in income tax, when others pay none, and most pay less than 5!!

A very fundamental question. Has merit too. It's as though they don't think you deserve what you earn. Of course, what you are implying, is outrageous to a Socialist.
The Council Tax, is even more illogical, because it assumes that property consumes services, and not people.
If higher earners don't pay more tax, then the base would have to increase for everyone. I suspect, although your question makes one rethink the basics, you would accept paying more if you didn't have Socialist Governments taking it too extremes by thinking they had a right to take more and more off you to hand to the unworthy. I guess a corollary to your concern might be, how much Public Sector do we need? because anything free at the point of delivery gets abused, both by those that receive it and those that delivery it.
Could you apply your concerns to the business world? Why should a Company pay more tax simply because it made more profit? |

Its the way of the World....the money has to come from somewhere and I suppose they use the argument that those who earn more should contribute more to society, but at times it does seem unfair....I am all for people who defraud the system to be sent to Prison for ever.....look on the bright side, you still keep more than you pay out.....would you rather earn less and pay less tax? I doubt it. |

If you are earning so well then I suggest you pay a good accountant to handle your affairs. If he is good, the the money you save will far outweigh the fee you pay him.
I did just this when I was earning high and I saved a great deal. |

Six figures eh? That to me sounds like £1,000.00. A thousand.... but even if it's a hundred thousand that you pay in tax, you're still far better off than most people, so the government think you can therefore put more 'in the pot' - and that's why you pay more tax - simply because you earn more ! |
