Speed Freak
Why should I pay my Council tax bill?
what dose council tax include exactly? I mean I dont live in a council house,I live on a private road,my rubbish I take to the dump myself, so what the F*** do I pay it for?

Council tax is for a lot of things - you should really visit a government website or something to find out exactly what it's for. I don't agree with it either as there are so many different kinds of tax we have to pay here but I know some of the things it covers is rubbish collection, keeping the roads maintained, local shools, if a fence or wall of yours outside the house needs maintaining I believe it covers that too as well as things like training courses supplied by the council.

Unfortunately even if you don't make use of any of those services we have to pay the fee by law or we can be prosecuted. I would rather go private than use the NHS, but do you think they'll allow me to stop contributing my NI? No. It's unfair but the government seems to have the authority to take money from us for whatever they feel like...tax on food, tax on being allowed to have a TV, road tax, tax on our wages, tax if we buy a house, tax on our savings!! It's never ending...

streetlights, emergency services, schools, Libraries, Parks, hospitals, the dump you take your rubbish to. Look in the phone book under the name of your local council and youwill get an idea of the services thye provide. Or check them out online.

Council tax pays for a range of council services, which can include;

Schools,
Parks and recreation,
Environmental health
Water supply,
Sewage disposal,
Fire and Rescue Services,
Museums and Libraries,
Social services,
Roads.

If you really feel you're due a discount because you take your rubbish to a 'council' dump, then take it up with your council, and good luck with that.

Just like everyone else has to pay it.

you should pay it as it pays for all public services provided locally, police, refuse, anything local government supplies council tax contributes to. oh and you will go to jail if you do not pay!

You should pay it because you can go to jail if you don't. I think its probably the most moaned about bill in the UK. I always say at the post office, "I'd like to pay my council tax bill and I do hope they choke on it"! In simple terms, these are the thing our council tax pays for and like it or not, they are all things we take for granted.
Local government provide services such as police, fire, recycling, refuse collection and removal, schools, leisure centres, park and ride schemes, parks and open spaces, street cleaning, subsidising of public transport, tourism, museums, social housing grants, housing and council tax benefits, environmental health and food safety in pubs, restaurants and shops, planning services, support for voluntary groups, meals on wheels, facilities for young people, adapting homes for disabled people, play centres for children, cctv installation, sports facilities, issuing taxi licences, flood defences, and many others.
Hope that enlightens a little. x

There is more to the council tax than paying for rubbish collections. There is the Police to pay for, street lighting, education, libraries, public rubbish bins, drainage...the list goes on. Despite the fact that you live on a private road, there will be loads of things you use on a daily basis that the council are responsible for. Just ask your council what your council tax goes towards and you will see what you get for your money.

so we can pay for every other idiot who comes into this country illegally so they can get all our hard earned money. Some of it does go to local schools etc. Does get on my wick because my local council hate doing anything.

Hundreds of thousands more of us could ask the same thing. Why should you pay it - simple, because if you dont they WILL take you to court and get an attachment on your earnings.
