Why should I pay school tax when I never will have children in school?

jesseica
Because children are our future. Do you not want to help make the world a better place?

Bad Kitty!
Because it is for the good of the community that the children be educated. That includes YOU.

(1) When you are old and drawing social security, your income will come from young workers now being educated. You are investing in your own future.

(2) There are plenty of things for which you are taxed that will not benefit you. Probably there are things benefiting you for which other people are paying taxes. Is life perfectly fair? No. Get over it.

Schools add value to a community. What would happen to your community and your Residence Value if the schools were removed or terminated? Most likely, there would be economic collapse. In most communities, the Schools are the largest employer. Plus, schools train up a workforce to serve all in the community.

Have you ever heard the phrase "it takes a village to raise a child"? Well everyone constitutes the village and we all help support it. I don't have children either but I see nothing unfair about it.

If you don't the undereducated people will be unemployed and try to rob you for even more money. So pay up.

because that child will become a tax paying adult one day and could become a doctor, to help you when your sick, a policeofficer when you get robbed, the list goes on. in order to have a better society we all have to pay for things that we will never use. i have never called the fire department, but i'm glad it is there.

the answer to your question is far too complicated to be discussed within the constraints of this site. the only 2 things you can be sure of in life is death and taxes, and that's all I'm going to say; anything more will get me reported

i hear this complaint all of the time. a more accurate argument would be why do non home owners with kids pay little or any tax while home owners without children pay taxes?? in reality you are paying taxes on the value of your property regardless of whether or not you have children in school. if you don't want to pay school taxes then don't own a house, but a part of your rent is based on the taxes that the landlord has to pay to the county/state/city. our tax system is supposed to be a progressive one.

mister_fin
Because tax laws are old and were created when having many children was considered food for society.

Most states are running into budgetary problems stemming from high education costs. States should take a portion of the child federal credits on the state returns. That way people with children will be paying more money into education.

No politician would pass this and so we are all equally screwed.

Sorry to break you the news.
