rtang@sbcglobal.net | Why should i have to file a tax return? |
Is it to get back the tax money that was taken from my check for 2007? |

No, you don't necessarily get back the tax money that was taken from your check for 2007. You don't get back your social security withholdings until you retire and start to collect social security. You don't get back your medicare withholdings. As far as federal and state withholding, you file a tax return to determine what your taxable income is and the tax on that taxable income, and if you had enough withheld plus any tax credits that you were entitled to claim. If you had more withheld/credits than you owed for a tax liability then you are entitled to a refund. If you had less withheld/credits than you owed for a tax liability then you owe the IRS and/or your State.
Please don't listen to Alex, he doesn't seem to know what he's talking about as far as taxes go. |

Do you want your money back? If you say "Yes" then file your federal and state tax returns. |

Because it's the law..even if they take the tax, you still have to report it on your 1040. Seems a bit redundant for some, but you must do it or pay heavy fines and penalties. |

You only have to file a tax return if you owe taxes. If you are getting a refund, there's no law that says you have to file a return. You can just let the government keep it. They'll get it all anyway, so you might as well let 'em have it now and get it over with!! <*)))>< |

Because the law says that you must if your income exceeds the filing requirement amount for your filing status.
Whether you get anything back depends upon the numbers. If your tax liability is less than what was withheld you'll get a refund. If it's more than what was withheld, you'll have to pay. |

yes when you get paid with a paycheck your employer withholds certain percentage for federal and state amounts, now if you want to file your taxes you will get back most it. look at your w-2 add line 2 plus line 17 and the total is how much minimum you will get refund if you file your taxes. |
