Why should tenants pay the Council Tax in UK?Why is the property owner not paying it?
That is unfair? If someone is renting a flat or house, means doesn't have house or money to buy one? The tenants usually are poor, and on top of that they have to pay the Council Tax, which I think is the highest in the World( as far as I know or comparing the countries I was living in) (I pay £148.98 per month, London UK) I think Council Tax should be included in the rent and be taken from the property owners? What do you think?

Tax is always based on earned income, be it salary or any other income like rental. In my country, Singapore, the landlord is to declare to the income tax department on the rental received yearly. I think your council tax in a way is discouraging people from renting room or house and there might be a reason for it. Perhaps you can challenge the govt why they are having such policies which is against the poor and beneficial to the rich.

Missfit
you are the person living in the house/flat and you are the one using the amenities i.e dustbin, street lights etc and not the owner of the property, you'll be asking if the owner should pay your electricity bill too next! get real

Jasmine Peters At Home
Property owners DON'T pay the tax unless they actually live there. It's all down to the tenant to cough up - they're the ones using the facilities provided by the council, not the landlord. Of course, it COULD be included in the rent, but you'd STILL be paying it - via your landlord's bank account !

Hat-A-Tat-Tat!!
the council comes round & collects YOUR rubbish & YOU have street lighting etc.,....why should you have all of that for free?? - it is not up to the property owner...he will have his own Council Tax to pay!

Very Blue Sky thinking, mate - council tax is for residents using communal services like, street cleaning, rubbish collection, libraries, police, play grounds and lots more that you may or may not use directly now..
If you want your landlord to pay for your council tax, then you can be sure that they make a nice little mark up... If I was you I'd rather vote in the London Mayor election to make sure that your money is spent more efficiently and the rate can be reduced.

some tennants have everything included in their rent electricity gas and water rates but they have less rights and is usualy just a short let

ChocLover
I kind of agree, I rent a council house and still have to pay council tax on top, I think I should just have to pay one payment to them each week to incorporate both. The council own my property so they should pay their own tax!
