Why should we pay taxes when there is no law to do so?

fat_albert_999
you need to read the 16th amendment

bostonianinmo
There damn sure IS a law! Title 26 of the United States Code! Here's a link. Read it and weep! http://www.law.cornell.edu/uscode/26/usc_sup_01_26.html

Because there *is* a Law saying you have to.

Oh please.......so if you feel so strongly that there is no law imposing income tax, then don't file tax returns and don't pay taxes. Then I can say "I told you so" when the IRS comes in and sues you, sells off all of your possessions, and then I have to support you with my taxes when you get sent to federal prison for tax evasion.

rhsaunders
If there is no law, you don't have to. But there is a law imposing income tax, so you'd best pay it.

Aw, how cute! A tax protester. You have been misinformed. I hope you pay your taxes and do not act on your ignorance... or fail to act, I guess.

donna_honeycutt47
Thats a good question. Some taxes are used for good purposes though, such as Highways and Schools. Unfortunately alot of the things Our Government does is not legal, but they have the bigger guns.

cat
Go ahead and don't pay. But when you end up owing thousands in back taxes, penalties and interest don't come complaining to us. I hope your good at making friends too because you're going to need them in jail.

Me
What law is this because I would love to know about it. I pay because when I get a home I don't want it along with any other assets sold at auction... since that's what they usually do!

Your are either stupid or dumb if you do not realize the implications of your statement. Plain fact is that are a variety of civil and criminal penalties which will befall you if you fail to file and remit tax due. It may tax the IRS years to catch up with you but when they do they will show on petty. Believe me, take if from someone who knows there is no future in tax protesting. The consequences are just not worth the effort. Oh well, life is full of choices....make yours.

I'm sorry, but I'm a little surprised at the flippant answers which have been so far submitted.

Everybody hates taxes. But, unfortunately, for our society to function they are necessary. True, tax money is often misused; but, generally taxes do serve the citizens.

As wasteful as it is, our government does accomplish quite a bit with our tax money.

Maybe if more people would vote...and vote intelligently, we could accomplish a lot more with that tax money.

Killer Klingon
Because if you don't pay your taxes you will be sent to jail. Is that enough incentive?
