You are right in feeling that we are over taxed, in Europe they wouldn't put up with it, look at the french. This country is becoming ridiculous with its taxes, scams like congestion charge and parking tickets, we pay £90 per six months to tax our car then can't park it anywhere (especially in London) without a parkig fine (a sneaky form of tax). The problem is we are British. We complain and moan but never actually do anything about it. If everybody refused to pay Council Tax or a small amount at least - what are the authorities going to do, jail each and everyone of us. We are a bit spineless and let the government walk all over us. People are entitled to raise families within a reasonable earning bracket, but if you calculate how much one child costs nobody would have them, because very few could afford them, this is right is it. More of a worry is how many people have now been brainwashed into thinking that the tax system in this country is fair and just. Very Big Brother if you ask me. Still keeps John Prescott in Jags. |

If you can't afford to raise a family then do not have one. I know it is hard when you see 15 year old girls with kids living off the state but please think what those kids will grow up to be like! Denmark I beleive pays 60% of their earning on tax! |

Taxes in all countries are outrageous. In America for example the average person has 52% of their income vanish due to taxes(CPA of America figure). Where does this money go? Social Services for example (helping people) (welfare) etc. 75 percent of the money collected for social services goes not to the poor but to the administration of social services. (governement wages, buildings , cars ,retirement, health package , electric bills etc etc etc). If you're smart get a job with the government, there is job security and over half their employees are expected to retire within a few years. |

were not really that different to the rest of europe, just taxed in different ways. e.g. nearly everyone in france pays at least 50% income tax |

My council tax is £160 a month, this is for a 2 bed housing association house, another unfair one is being legally forced to have a tv licence even if you never watch the BBC channels |

I hate the government stealing my money. If they spent it on useful things then I wouldn't mind too much but its the fact they don't that really annoys me.
One example is that immigrants should be made to work for their cash otherwise they get sent back where they came from and if they claim they are going to be killed then that's their problem.
Another is that there are far too many spongers on incapacity benefit who are actually capable of working this should be stopped and get them into work and only the ones that are 100% incapable of working get it.
Council Tax should be scrapped and replaced by Income Tax based on how much you earn which would be much fairer as currently the bill is the same whether you are a pensioner or a premiership footballer.
Look at all the money that could be saved if these policies were used and that's just what I can think of off the top of my head.
Things that the money saved could be used for:
More money to the NHS.
No more tuition fees or student loans.
Higher state pension for those who have worked all their life. |

The State needs families and so you are
doing a good job. Your local MP is available
to you and wants to hear from you. Call in
for details at your Citizens Advice Bureau.
Ask him/her to explain the system. If you are
finding it a strain, your MP may be able to help. |
