Why the government forces people to pay tax? why can't I opt out of their social programs and not pay tax.
I just want to live in a remote area, I dont need the goverment for anything. And I dont wana pay any taxes either. So why the government is allowed to jail me if I do so? Do they own me?

Well if you never buy anything, sell anything, own anything, use public roads, telephones, air waves water or electricty you will not pay taxes.

ladysilhouette
Feel free to opt out an any time by moving to another country. FYI: the luxuries you enjoy here come courtesy of paying taxes.

Do you use the schools, the roads, and the bridges? Do you want clean air and water? Do you want an army and navy that will protect you? Also you never know when you may need government assistance.
Use your head. These privileges cost money.

Want in one hand and poop in the other one and tell me which one starts to smell bad first. You pay taxes because the law says you do.

However if you want to do the Grizzly Adams thing and live off of the land with no income then you won't have to pay any taxes.

taxes suck. but, they do own you. you drive on their roads, their military protects you, their cops keep people from breaking into your home, the firefighters stop your house from burning down in case of a fire. again, taxes suck, but you have to pay up. sorry.

Molly
Nope, sorry. Laws are binding on all citizens.

As a side note, some ministers (legitimate religions) do opt out of the SS program, swear to themselves that they'll put the same amount of money aside (they never get around to it) and then regret it later.

leecibra response was so true. But you know what is sad is when you need these services you still have to pay extra for it. Example I am a tax payer and someone rear ended my car on the freeway and we turned over in the car. The firetruck came out, the ambulance as well. Luckily no one was seriously hurt. But I was cited by a cop he said someone had to get the ticket and walked away. The other cop tells me just tell the judge what happened she will dismiss it. So I went to court and the judge smacks me with $400 even though I told the ***** I was rear ended. But because firetrucks, cops, ect.. had to come out I had to pay the citation. I never called any of them but I had to pay.

Try living in a third world country. What you have here is taken for granted by complaining about things such as taxes. Go out there and see what other's have to go through in different countries then you'll start appreciating everything you have.

If you really feel so strong on taxes, sure don't pay it but be ready for consequences.

it is a nice idea but i think it would be nearly impossible to live without government assistance of some type. think highways, police, fire departments, schools, national defense, municipal water/sewer, etc. i would like the government NOT to use my money for bailing out the "mortgage crisis" or funding the war in iraq, but that's how our "representatives" choose to spend it. that's why the only 2 definites in life are death and taxes. i believe there are countries that don't tax their citizens, maybe you would be happier in one of those places.
