bubbles_are_sad | Why would anyone in there right mind say the rich need bigger tax breaks? |
It just doesn't make sense. The richest one percent makes nearly 411 times the amount of a normal blue collar worker in the United States. Wealthy Europeans pay up to 65% in taxes andstill make 15 times a normal blue collar worker. That is still a healthy salary.
And before you answer, do not give me any "Love it or leave it" bullshit. |

Only the rich think they should get bigger tax breaks! And because they are rich and usually powerful they will probably get them. I think it is stupid as well. The poor and middle class people are the ones that should get all the help. |

First you can't tax the rich. What ever high taxes you impose on them, they simply pass to the people that made them rich, ie. rent payers, customers, clients etc. The small business owner is the largest employer in the US. To tax the heck out of the rich just prevents our entrepreneurs from hiring more people, spending money on things that make us richer (not the government) like other small business owners. Also Europe is socialized everything, and what wonderful teeth they have. The bigger the government you create the less "we the people" you have in that government. Essentially, socialism is for the lazy and taxing the heck out of the rich is for the envious. |

Who says they do? Be specific. |

No one in their right mind would say that in my opinion. The people who need the bigger tax breaks are the people who are only paid minimum wage and the people who have less than that. That is the people who are struggling to make ends meet. |

I run a business that caters to high worth individuals. I do not make a whole lot of money. I just get by. My business was on the verge of bankruptcy in the 90's... And with the Bush tax breaks in the early 2000's, my business has come back strong. The rich spend more when they have more, and it fuels the economy.
The top 5% of income earners in the US pay more the 50% of the total tax revenue collected by the government. |

Why the answer is obvious isn't it? In addition to the rich, people who don't think they pay enough in taxes think the rich need tax breaks. After all its only fair that single moms pay the same rate as Bill Gates, isn't it? |

well, if you tax the businessmen, they will just make more and add it into the cost of the products that us average joes buy, but tax them anyways - I think the poor shouldn't get things like EIC, I bet that would help me out. You have to figure they pay $2745 a kid those people get back that barely make $11k |

The rich are in 35% federal tax bracket. Low income group is either in 10% tax bracket or they don't pay any federal tax; they get extra money because of EIC, Child Tax Credit and Additional Child Tax Credit.
Here are the figures for 2005 return.
"The top-earning 25 percent of taxpayers (AGI over $62,068) earned 67.5 percent of the nation's income, but they paid more than four out of every five dollars collected by the federal income tax (86 percent).
The top 1 percent of taxpayers (AGI over $364,657) earned approximately 21.2 percent of the nation's income (as defined by AGI), yet paid 39.4 percent of all federal income taxes.
That means the top 1 percent of tax returns paid about the same amount of federal individual income taxes as the bottom 95 percent of tax returns."

Because it is the rich that are making these tax laws. They get into ideas about "stimulating the economy" and "trickle-down" without actually experiencing the results themselves |

The only people who would say the wealthy needed tax breaks would be the wealthy. |
