You will only get $300.

I actually paid at least $600 in taxes, so I'll get the $600. Your tax bill would be about $125 which is less than the $300, so you only get $300.

(If your 2008 income is higher, you'll get a second chance at the other $300.)

If your 2007 tax return showed at least $3000 income, then you'll get at least $300. You won't get $600 unless your net federal income tax for 2007 was at least $600, and yours is probably more like $125 if you are not a dependent, and that would qualify you to get $300 but not $600. If you are a dependent, you wouldn't be eligible for a stimulus payment.

Grandpa
here is what they say--------Are you eligible? The vast majority of people who file a 2007 income tax return qualify, and many who don't regularly file a tax return may qualify as well. You're eligible if you have a valid Social Security Number (SSN), can't be claimed as a dependent on a tax return and have either an income tax liability or "qualifying income" of at least $3,000. Qualifying income includes any combination of earned income and certain benefits from Social Security, Veterans Affairs or Railroad Retirement. Additional information is below, and a full legal description is available in Revenue Procedure 2008-21.

Yes. If you filed your 2007 taxes and had an earned income of more the 3k, you should.

Although, that lovely letter they sent out wasn't very helpful in explaining things.

You will get a stimulus payment of at least $300.

If the tax liability on your tax return (the amount of tax calculated before subtracting credits and amounts withheld) is greater than $300, you will get that exact amount up to a maximum of $600.
