Will I have to pay Tax on my state pension? UK.?

The UK State Pension is paid with no tax deducted, but it is taxable. If you are over 65 and your total income including pension is less that £9,030, you pay no tax. (Under 65 the figure is £6,035). Any income above that figure is taxed. If you have a company pension as well as a State Pension, any tax due is deducted from your company pension.

The state pension is taxable and don't let anyone tell you differently. But your personal tax allowance is usually higher then your state pension. So if you only have your pension then it does not reach your allowance so no tax is payable. If you have other sources of income, like still doing a part time job or another pension, then this (combined with your state pension) will take you over the allowance and therefore anything over this allowance is taxable.

as far as i know they take all your income and if its above your personal allowance then yes you will pay tax, but its best to phone the tax people if your not sure as they can tell you how much income you can have before paying tax.

It is not taxed directly, but if you have other taxable income, it will be added to the total, to calculate any tax you have to pay, after deducting your tax-free allowance.

No, the only time you would get taxed is if you have investments, or if you were to take a little part time job.

DJJD
No. Make sure you are getting your pension credits, if you are living on a low income and anything else you are entitled to. Housing benefit, if you rent and council tax benefit too. x

Champagne 7 SUSPENDED AGAIN
No.

qpr26
no, you don't.

Hello,

(ANS) No!, The state pension is NOT taxed, its tax free as far as I am aware.

**Bear in mind that its ordinary peoples taxes in the first place that fund the state pension. This is why we all pay National Insurance, its NI contributions that fund your state pension.

**For the state pension you must have a minimum of x40 units of NI contributions over a working life time that entitles a person to 100% state pension. i.e. based on the old assumption that a working life time was 40 years retiring at 65 years old before you can claim it.

**Pensions are an extremely complex & confusing subject even for the best & most intelligent people in our society. But on a simplistic level you should think of the state pension as:-

a) the barest minimum that you will need when you retire & in your old age (when ever that is?) this is ONLY going to give you survival level income. :-

b) in addition or on top of the state pension, you MUST make or create some other form of savings or second private or company pension scheme. Why? because to have even the most modest pension to retire on and to live even just a simple lifestyle in retirement the state pension WON'T be enough (I'm NOT talking about a jet set or millionaires life style).

**Without a second pension provision the state pension just gives you poor church mouse life style level.

Kind Regards Ivan.
