Will i get bush's tax refund or NOT?!?!?
I am 18 years old and my parents still claim me (up until im 19) and i made a little under 5000 in 2007. i got a notice in the mail on the bush's tax refund showing a chart to kinda help me figure out how much i would get back. well people have been telling me, since my parents claim me i will get nothing back, i thought it was all tax payers, i work a full time job and pay my taxes!! do i or do i not get this back, it is getting very frusterating.

If your parents claim you as a dependent, you will be ineligible for the rebate, but you may still benefit under the plan.

While the rebate depends on your 2007 status and income, it is actually a rebate toward your 2008 taxes. According to the Economic Stimulus Act of 2008, taxes would be cut in 2008 from 10 percent to zero percent on the first $6,000 dollars of taxable income for individual taxpayers.

So if you have taxable income in 2008, you will see a tax cut when you file in 2009.

If you are being claimed by yor parents in 2007 you will not get the rebate. You can go to the IRS website and it will tell you the same thing.

bostonianinmo
Dependents are not eligible for the rebates themselves, regardless of their age, income or tax liability.

Parents will get $300 for each child UNDER age 17 as of Dec 31, 2007 listed on their 2007 tax return IF they qualify for a base rebate themselves.

Given that you're a dependent over age 16, nobody will get anything on your behalf.

Just a side note, though. With only $5,000 in income it's highly unlikely that you had a full time job for all of 2007. Even using the old minimum wage, a full time job would pay a bit over $10,000 per year.

Children 17 and older on that date won't earn their parents a rebate. Nor will they earn a rebate based on their own income if their parents claim them - or could claim them - as dependents on their tax returns.

Go to www.irs.gov and follow the links for the Stimulus Payments. If you have finished your tax return, you can enter you information, and the IRS will tell you if you qualify or not, and what your payment will be...

Only if you file a 2007 income tax form. It is mandatory to file in order to get the rebate.

No, dependents aren't eligible.

you will need to file your 2007 return if you want to be eligible to receive the tax rebate.

nope.
ur parents claim you, so they will get it not you
you should have filed your own taxes.

also, I am not sure why your parents claimed you.
my bro turned 18 in Aug 07, and my parents were not able to claim him on 07 taxes, & my other bro who turned 16 in july 07, this is the last yr my parents can claim him...

Actually that $800. "refund" he's talking about is the tax rebate and it's actually a loan. If you do get it, then next year you won't be eligible for a refund. seriously.
Anyone who doesn't believe me should research it first before giving me thumbs down.
to those who give me a thumbs down, you're clearly in denial. go ahead and do it, then see what happens to your refund next year.
