Will i get money back from my student loan on my taxes?
obviously im in the lower tax bracket, so when i file my income tax Im wondering how does the student loan affect it? Iknow when I report my taxes I will get money back for the federal money they withheld from my paychecks.. but does the same apply for my student loan? Will I be able to use my student loan the same way or will it hurt me? i guess im wondering do they take out taxes from the student loan and if so, can i get some of that back on my tax return?

Student loans are not taxable income seeing as one day you will have to pay them back. The only effect student loans have on tax returns are when the loans are in repayment. Then you can deduct up to 2500 in student loan interest from your Gross Income to get to your adjusted gross income.

JK Harris
Your student loan is just that, a loan and taxes are not withheld from it when it is disbursed to you. That being said, you do not claim this as income on your tax return and will not get anything back from the IRS on your student loan.

Frank112
No, student loan interest is deductable before AGI but it is not a credit and it is non-refundable.
