For federal, if your 2006 gross income meets or exceeds the following levels and you are under age 65, you must file a tax return:
Single $ 8,450
Head of Household $10,850
Married Filing Jointly $16,900
Married Filing Separately $ 3,300
Qualifying Widow or Widower $13,600

Check with your state website to find their requirements, they could be different from federal. Here is a page with links to all the state websites. http://www.internet-taxprep.com/plindex.asp?welcome=WU9900641&page=plstateinfo.asp

In general, even if you do not HAVE to file a return, you should file one to get a refund of any federal income tax withheld from your paychecks.

There is a real good article here that explains the filing requirements in detail. http://www.internet-taxprep.com/plindex.asp?welcome=RG9900640&page=taxguide/text/c60s10d048.asp

If you got ur w2's you should file your taxes. I've only been working three months and plan on filing. It won't be much but it's better than nothing.

cfrichmond
Yep. They don't care if you've been working 1 day--they want their 15-40% of it!

You will have to file a Federal return whether it is a just a 1040EZ. Depending on how much money you made during the six months and the number of withholding allowances you put on the W4 form, you will either get money back or pay money.

This will be a good time to determine if you need to change your W4 withholding allowances for 2007 based on a full year's income compared to the six months and your tax liability for 2006. Always double check your state withholding allowances. Some employers will just withhold based on your W4 options. In Ohio, that doesn't work for me. I have to claim 0 on my state withholding from my pay to avoid paying them at the end of the year.

even if you only worked 6 hours, you still must file! If you have to pay or not is another story! That will depend on how much you make, how much you paid in tax, your deduction & many other factors. But yes, you must file regardless.

You will have to file at tax return. Everyone who works has to pay income taxes, if they work legally.

You probably won't have to pay any income tax, BUT, your employer has been withholding taxes from your paycheck. This means you will need to file an income tax return to get back any money withheld.

Yes! Aren't taxes fun. Takes all the joy out of working when you have to fork over money to "Uncle Sam" and "Uncle Arnold" for CA taxpayers.;)

It depends on how much you made, not how long you worked.

rabidliberal
You are only required to file income tax. If you are below the taxable income, then you will not have to pay. If you are above taxable income, then you will have to pay some, depending how much of your income is taxable. If you have made a significant amount, then get some tax help. Also, get on the IRS site listed below.
