Hardly. But this is an election year and the politicians have to be seen as trying to do something, whether it is effective or not. |

I don't think so... It may give a little jolt, but that will be short lived. Most people I have talked to are planning on saving it or paying down debt which isn't the intention of the rebate. |

i dont think so. by the time we actually receive the checks, the recession will have gotten deeper anyway. trust me, its gonna get alot worse before it gets any better. |

There are many factors driving this country to recession. None of them are being addressed. Illegal aliens, the free trade agreement, greed of big companies and government to name a few. Consumers could fight it by not supporting these things but none will. Everyone wants to take advantage of cheap which enables this problem. A functional economy is your money spent supporting others in the same economy that are in turn spending their money on your product. The current US economy is you spending money in other countries and in businesses that don't support this economy which simply equals money out and none in. As a consumer you can make the effort to spend in this economy. It is hard to do now, it is hard to find products of this economy because people blindly crushed the companies of this country. If everyone demanded US made products the economy would revive nearly overnight.
The tax rebates will be great for china however they will not help the US economy. We would see a boost in the economy if everyone spent their rebate on US products. |

People are the only thing that can cure the recession and with everyone being so happy to just give all their money to mexico and china its not going to happen. It amazes me how people buy all the foreign items they do and then wonder why our economy is like this. GET A CLUE PEOPLE!!! |

A step.
We have had recessions every election year. The politicians and media make sure of it. It will be over in 2009, no matter who is president. |

If the price of gas reaches $4.00 per gallon by Memorial Day like some predict. Your stimulus check MIGHT pay for the difference in your fuel bill for a few months. ): |

Not hardly. The whole silly mess represents less than 1% of the GNP. At best it will forestall the inevitable for a couple of months if we're lucky. It's going to take 2 or 3 months to get them all out so there won't be any big boost in the economy. It's nothing more than an expensive voter buyout, IMHO, that will double the deficit for FY08. Dumb. |

we are to deep in the recession for anything to cure it. people are quitting their jobs right and left, which is the main reason for the decline. People can't afford luxury items any more which has made a decline in the real estate and automobile industries. My friends father lost 60 grand in the stock market, so people have lost their faith in the economy through and through. The only thing that seems to be able to cure the recession at this point is an miracle. |

No, at best it is a small temporary form of relief to a situation that will continue. There are other many steps some of which include; how strong the dollar is, balancing the federal budget, foreign trade policies, bringing jobs with benefits back to America, interest rates, and help to reduce the number of foreclosures on homes that the federal government must make decisions on. Their decisions will make the near future a slow road to recovery with some ups and downs, or a deep dive into more trouble.
I think we will know more about how this will turn around after 2008, as we see how mortgage meltdown goes.
I agree that the flip side of a tax rebate is that those who receive it, will most likely have to claim it as income on next years taxes.
The USA's econony may be stimulated in the service job section by tax rebates. But actually we will be stimulating foreign economies if we choose to buy products, look at everything we buy, it's probably made in China.
Best to save, invest, or apply the rebate to pay down any debt, you may have. Take care of yourself in these tough times.
And most analysts say we are not in a recession yet. It has to with the national consumer spending and spending in the business sector of our economy. Even though consumer spending is down now, there are American businesses selling products in the global markets. |

Nope, but next year, whatever your "tax rebate" check was for will be added to your 2008 taxable income and could put you into a higher tax bracket! |
