Say you want to work out 15% of £20.50.
Do this calculation- 20.50/100=0.205, 0.205*15=3.075
Round 3.075 to £3.07 and add to £20.50
-20.50+3.07=£23.57

15% is easy. Divide by ten, then divide by two. Add both those together and you have the 15%.

If you are calculating from the vat included price to work out how much is vat, the obvious suggestion is look on the receipt! Otherwise divide by 1.15.

say something is £125.00

get 10% of the number by moving it down 1 decimal place.

£12.50

half that so that you have got 5%

£6.25

add them together so then you have got 15% of the number

£18.75

that would be the VAT on omething £125
