its the standard code - without giving u a crash course, it means you can earn £5225 in a year before you pay tax, or about £415 a month.

The tax code determines how much money you can earn before you pay tax...

gavmel259
You can earn £5220 pounds before paying tax. If your earnings are above this, then you will be paying tax on anything above this amount.

mister ed
you got me - will have to remember to check back and see what the answer is.

this is the standard tax code for 07/08. you can earn £5220.00 before tax. according to tax calculators, on a weekly basis you can earn £100.38 before paying tax, this is about the same for National insurance this year too.

You stick a nought on the end and that tells you how much you can earn in the tax year without pay tax on it.Your emplyer will average oout over the year-so much a month or week.Anything over that you pay tax on.

cereal killer

you can earn £5220 before paying tax. well actualy you would still pay tax on the first 5220 and get a rebate at the end of the year if all you earned was 5220

basically it means they already keeps an eye on you and put a hand into your pocket. Practically it means you are trapped and cant get off.
