oilfieldinsultant | Would Americans be willing to pay a flat tax instead of Income Tax? |
Additional Details A flat tax of 18% on all purchases/sales. The Illegals, tax protestors & All Corporations have no safe harbor because everybody pays at the cash register. The Nat'l debt is erased in 7 yrs. The gov't operates in the Black after 7 yrs. Tax is reduced to 10% to cover all expenses. We are the American Dream. You pay 18% not matter what you make. Tax loop holes are eliminated, because their are none.

Many liberals fear the flat tax because it is not "progressive." The progressiveness of our current tax system provides that those who make more income pay a greater share of that to the government. The government, in turn, funds social programs that, in effect, redistributes wealth. In parallel to this, the higher income earners make sure to take advantage of loopholes and deductions in the current tax system to reduce their "progressively" higher tax liability.
In the concept of a flat tax, where everyone pays the same X% of each dollar in income, the incentive to earn the extra dollar will be the same for a low income earner as a high income earner. This makes a lot of sense to me. |

Replace the income tax with a high gas tax! That is the only way we are going to start conserving oil which is the only thing that is goingg to save this nation. |

as it is the average wage earner pays about 24 percent in
taxes where the rich only pay less than 5 %.. if that much.
with a flat tax, lets say 10% the load would be taken off
the low income people that support the rich. |

I have supported this plan for years. Income tax is legalized robbery. |

Those who pay less than 18% in taxes wont be a fan of that. There is also the question of, how do you entice people to do things they should normally do. i.e. buy a home, save for retirement, give to charity, etc.
In respone to the answer right in front of me, whi says the rich pay less than 5%, and who says the poor pay more than the rich. For the same benefits, the rich pay a heck of a lot more and more as a percentage than the poor.
In fact, the rich do not even use many of the services used by the poor which are supported by the state.
damn democrats and their misplaced notions of which way is up. |
