Would my whiskey purchases qualify as tax deductible business expenses?
Why was my question deleted the first time?? Whiskey helps me to function at this corporate job from hell, therefore, should qualify as a legitimate write-off, no?

I like the way you think, 8 Track. I'll have to use that next time my boss forces me to take one of those "random" company-administered Blood Alcohol Tests.

It is strange that there are no alcoholics on Crete. Although we drink almost every day (even at work...somebody is always celebrating --over here we not only celebrate birthdays, but name days as well--) nobody is ever labeled an alcoholic.
So let's see. If you are a pagan (oh it's just so much fun to be one) you would celebrate not only your birthday, name day, but also whole months that are dedicated to the Gods (wouldn't you know that only the god of wine and acrigulture get whole months).
Just tell your boss that you are a Hellenistic Orthodox Pagan. :)

I would have to say that it should. Some things in life just shouldn't be done sober.

Serious answer? No. It is not ordinary or necessary. If you just believe it is helpful, that is not enough.

Non-serious? When you get stung by a "random" test, you will be free of this job from hell.

Look you old sloshed up has been. You gotta corporate job because you can't get any more screen time. Suck it up like the rest of us. Grab the bottle, dabble a little coke and get through the day! You're not special and you're not getting any money back!!!!!!!

Thanks for the laugh. But no, that would be a personal expense - and very expensive if you end up getting fired for drinking on the job.

If your job is that bad, and some are, you need to find a different job.

switch to medical marijuana. It requires a persciption and can be written off.

Sorry, no. Unreimbursed employee expenses must be ordinary and necessary and required by your employer and they are only deductible if you qualify to itemize deductions.

It would depend on why you were buying the booze. If it is to lubricate yourself, it is a personal expense. From the tone of your narrative, it sounds like you either need to get a new job or join AA.
