Hi, im leaving school within the next month, (returning next year) and noticed that the Minimum wage for Under 18 in Uk is ВЈ3.40, and the Minimum wage is ВЈ5.52(over 22)

Do employers follow ВЈ3.40? or is this rate more?

The UK minimum wage is legally enforceable. Take no less (Take more if pos.)

That is the rate for under 18's and a lot of retailers pay JUST THAT. Shop around - the better the store the more they pay. Oh and that doesn't necessarily mean the posher the store. ASDA pay well whereas Burger King the pits.

It depends on the job and the number of hours you work. If you have enough qualifications to get a full time office job you would probably get more than that. The majority (but not all I know) of under 18s that get paid ВЈ3.40 an hour probably have Saturday jobs to get some money whilst they are still at school and ВЈ3.40 is fine for them.

Look at your local job centre, many of the jobs advertised there will have the wages/salary posted and they shouldn't change the advertised rate just because you are young.
