Would you pay higher taxes if it meant free health care in the United States?
why or why not?

I'd be willing, depending on how much higher you are talking. Right now my willingness level is about $200/mo.

I don't think the government can come anywhere close to providing health care at less of a cost than private industry, without breaking the system.

No. I already have healthcare that I pay for and I would likely pay more than I already do now and have less efficient care in the "free" healthcare scenario. In other words, it would be more expensive and my service would not be as good. It is a lose-lose situation for me.

No, most large scale government services are slow and poor quality service (Read: DMV). Most places of employment provide healthcare plans for their employees, and with a low percentage of unemployment (People willing and able to work who can't find jobs) there is no reason for the government to tax me further to provide for someone who won't work and expects to be given hand-outs.

Thank God I'm Atheist
Well, if we pay higher taxes, that wouldn't be free, right?

Strange Days
Sure, why not,I'm already paying for others on welfare getting free benifits on my dollar.I wouldnt mind paying more if I could get coverage too since I'm already paying for people I dont even know and that dont deserve it.

Yes.

*hazel* is almost there :)
Yes, because health care is pretty expensive so not paying for health care and just higher taxes we'll just be paying a little less.
