Would you receive more money filing your taxes with H&R Block or with doing it youself with TaxCut?

Never use H&R Block, they are a bunch of morons. They know nothing about deductions and aren't interested in getting you the biggest bang for your buck, just getting you out the door. The employees aren't tax professionals, they are just number punchers that plug in numbers when the program asks them to.

Celeste
Tax Cut is H & R Block's software. Whether you use software or you physically go to a tax service, if you're taxes are done right, the outcome will be the same.
I've used Tax Cut this year and in previous years for free! The IRS sponsors the Free File Alliance, in which H & R Block participates. It's easy to prepare and file your federal return. Just answer the questions and you're done!

Successy Lady
Being an Instructor and Manager of H&R Block, I stand behind both (since Tax-Cut is H&R Block). CPA's and such do charge way more, in addition, H&R is recognized by the IRS for its Income Tax Course. In addition, we do not charge more than the competitors & we offer SO MUCH MORE. We offer Banking, Investments/Financial Advisors, Mortgages, Small Businees (advisors/tax/etc), and Taxes. So, go to an office and what you pay for is personal advice, Instant Money and a Tax & Financial Partner for life.

No one can "guarantee" a larger refund. If your tax returns are being done correctly both ways, there should not be a difference in the refund by doing it yourself using software versus going to H&R Block. The only way that there could be a difference is if a valid deduction was missed.

Tax software will "interview" you to determine what income you have and what deductions you may be eligible for. This interview will be the same as the one done by H&R Block, or any other tax preparer. How good the interview is really depends on how thorough it is and the quality of your responses. The maxim "garbage in, garbage out" applies.

Unless H&R messes up or you do, the refund or tax due amount should be the same. Buying TaxCut is cheaper than paying H&R to do it in their office, so you'd save money with the software.

If your return is very complicated, you might be better off seeing an accountant than either using TaxCut or H&R. But for most normal returns, the software should work just fine.

you always get more by doing it your self, the charge a lot somtimes. I still go to them though because I am always desperate for the money and I want it right away.

i worked at H and R block...and while they do get new preparers in every year...they also have very competent and experienced preparers who sometimes know more than tax attorneys...they are worth it if it is complicated, because they can save you money on stuff you don't know about

I wouldn't feel very comfortable with HR Block. Tax cut might work for you, but it depends on your situation. Do you make alot of money? Own your own home? Lot's of sharitable deductions? Or are you single, no dependants, income < $50,000, no house, etc.

Bottom line is they can't find tax refunds for you if you have nothing to be refunded for!

best advice is to talk to a CPA.

It depends on how complicated your returns are! If not complicated then file yourself and save their fees. If Very complicated see an accountant they will save you a heck of a lot more than H&R.

You'd get more by doing them yourself because you wouldn't have to pay H&R Block $100-$200 to prepare your taxes. Do it yourself and use the same tax software they use, like Turbo Tax or Tax Act....

H&R Block is never the right answer. I worked there for two years before starting my own tax practice. The average charge for a customer when I worked there was $160.00. Now that I'm on my own I average just under $100.

mark
you would be better off by filing your taxes through expresstaxrefund.com, it's fast and easy...I e-filed my taxes with them and the IRS accepted my return in 24 hours and I'll be receiving my refund directly deposited into my bank next week

Neither... You would get a larger refund if you go to a highly skilled tax accountant that knows all the loop holes and can get you money where you never knew you could.

I had H & R block and they screwed up many things... my NOW accountant had to go back and do amended taxes to fix what H&R block missed.

Always have people smarter than YOU working FOR you...pay someone good money to do what YOU do not want to do. I do not want to learn all the tax laws and codes, so I pay my guy to keep me in the free and clear with the IRS and get me money to boot.
