Would you report someone who earns money from children's clubs but does not declare it to the Revenue?
I work in a school and have my own self-employed income - both of which are declared and tax and NI paid.

In the same school are 3 people who run weekly after school sports clubs for kids and a holiday club. Whilst I appreciate that these kids are kept off the streets and find real value from the activities I have real issues with the fact that none of the three declare the income from these clubs to the revenue.

The money raised does not go back into the clubs as the "manager" of the club is the head's son and they use the school premises free of charge and use the school electricity, photocopying etc for free.

To date this has been fine but now all three of them have been bragging about the fact that they have raised enough to send the three of them to Florida for 3 weeks in July.

I'm sure this money could be used to benefit the kids and not the members of staff and should be claimed to the taxman. Obviously I cant go to the head with this as it's his son!

Help!!!!

if it bothers you so much report it, but even if you do it anonymously, they'll likely figure out that it was you who did it, so be prepared for some possible retribution.

I would, (and have) they are cheating all the other taxpayers, who have to pay extra to cover the shortfall.
HMRC never divulges where this sort of information comes from.
Do they earn more than the tax free limit of £5225 per annum?

I would be more concerned about the possibility that they are not checked out by the police thingy you have to have when you work with children.

Where children are concerned it should all be above board and the headmaster should know better.

Grass 'em up!

.
Yes. Why should they reap the benefits?

do it, normally i'd say no but as they are bragging then get them stuffed, hopefully after the holiday then they won't be so smug

No. If you consider reporting anyone to the authorities, you need to think about the consequences for them and other people: always be moral and do not hurt anyone unnecessarily. If the issue is very serious (like hurting or bullying someone), report them to save further problems, but not for minor issues: they would get prosecuted, lose their jobs, and the result would be bad for everyone.

definetly report them, its sad that they havent declaired the income because it should be taxed. Why should we get taxed and end up with vertually half our gross income when they can keep it all. Id definetly report them its unfair especially when your doing the correct thing.

In America if you rat on someone erra I mean you turn them in you can get 10% of what they collect. Before you rat or tell make sure it's worth it

rhys_sage
You can report this but quite honestly I wouldn't bother. You'd probably get too much flak if you were discovered. Either than or get another job first.

No I would not. The British government is at least as corrupt as they are.
More fool you for being too honest.
