Would you report someone you suspected was claiming working tax credits they weren't entitled to?
Basically.....they are getting £13,000 a year i believe they shouldn't, i have been on the tax credits website & based on what i believe they are earning they shouldn't be getting this.
Now normally, i don't believe in grassing people up, but i'm sick of being told how much they spend on this & that & i've always played by the book when claiming stuff like this & genuinely think this is wrong......

What would you do???

Ok....i know what they are earning.......she told me what she earns & what her boyfriend earns

Yes you should but do it anonymously

as for the person who said they may not be entitled but may deserve it (or something like that) who's to judge who deserves it? How about someone who does lots for the community and doesn't get paid a thing? I know people who do loads of things for the community yet they dont find the need to go committing fraud! If they have no conscience about steeling this money i hardly think there the sort of people to deserve it!

As for saying people always get caught - not true, i have the misfortune of being related (very distantly) to someone who has been claiming false disability allowances for years and years, they even got things put in the paper about their sob story and didnt get caught! Also dont even come back with the whole thing of i might not know everything about them, i do as i had to live with them for a couple of years!!

I would report them, why should they be getting money that they dont deserve when everyone else has to work hard to their money.

Hmm, it really annoys me as well when people abuse the system and sponge benefits they're not entitled to. Not sure I would go as far as reporting someone though, because you could get them into a lot of trouble...Plus if it's someone you know quite well, it could get back to them that you were the one to tell, and then there would probably be hell to pay. Depends though, if you really feel strongly that it's wrong then report it, but don't just do it out of spite if you don't like the person.

By the sounds of it this person isn't a close friend or maybe even an accomplise. You need to do what feels right. You can report these people anonymously so they need never know if that is whats worrying you.

I actually broke up with someone over the fact they were claiming benefits and working. I think it's absolutely wrong, my income after everything had gone out is miniscule, I have to live off potatoes and do very few enjoyable activities. I'm sure you can report it anonymously to HMRC. I'd say, if you can keep quiet after reporting it then do it, if you can't, it'll come back to haunt you.

Hmmmm...

Don't know. Are your feelings based on jealousy? If they are you may not like the way you feel after grassing on them. Also, are you absolutely sure? They may just be good with what they have.

If they really are conning the system they'll get found out eventually. You could always confront them and say they ought to be careful as someone may report them one day.

Would I? Would depend on the situation. You aren't the police.

Suki Boo
You will open up a can of worms on this subject.

But yes I would report them - as a tax payer you have every right to do so.

Cari
Yes definitely ...

That's such a large amount of money, I might consider not reporting them it was a smaller amount, but for that much money, hell yeah! That is half my annual salary ... I receive no help from the state at all, and will probably be stuck living in a share house for the entire rest of my life, and yet others are claiming that much that they're not entitled to.

Besides, what they are doing is, plain and simple, breaking the law. If you knew that they'd mugged someone, or physically attacked someone, or burgled someone, or whatever, then I hope you'd report that, so what's the difference?

And to the person who said that they will get found out in April when they declare their earnings, this is INCORRECT as it is no longer compulsory to fill out a tax return.

You may not know their situation as well as you think. They might have debts and even though theyre getting a lot you dont know the ins and outs. I would steer clear.

why don't you just mind your own busines . they will get found out in april when they have to declare their earnings anyway, just because a website says something doesn't mean they are not entitled to what they recieve they take all kinds of things into consideration when working out your tax credits, worry about your own life and not others is your life that boring that you have to go round grassing people up i hate people like you, was it you that grassed me up B*ASTARD. get a life.

leambi.... just becuase they might not be entitled to it doesn't mean they don't deserve it have you tried living on a low income i have and i've had to go without food just so my daughter could eat just because the ******** state say i'm not entitled to it they where taking my partners previous wages from his old job into consideration, the whole system was brought in to get children out of poverty it doesn't ******** work, why do you think so many people commit benefit fraud etc. they are not being greedy they art just trying to live.
well some of them any way, oooohhh you've hit a nerve.big time.

i've just read your question again, are you trying to say they are earning 13k a year tax credits or 13k income from their job if so are they earning this each or between them?
