Your 2006 tax return, is it for the work you did in 2005?
Are 2006's tax returns for what you did in 2005 or 2006?

You file taxes on 2006 for the entire 2005 year of earnings

If you're filing in 2006, it's for the year 2005.

yes they are for the year before

Your 2006 tax return is for the work you did in 2006 but it is not filed until after the end of the fiscal year, which is December 31, 2006 for most individuals.

Also, for most individuals tax returns are not due until April 15th of the following year to allow time for you to receive all of the tax documents you will need in order to file your tax return because you cannot file your tax return until after you receive all of your tax documents such as your W-2s or 1099s.

No, it's for the work you did in that year, you just file those the year after. So people filed their 2006 tax return by April of 2007.

Ben's Girl
The return you file(d) in 2006 was for work you did in 2005.

The one you file in 2008 will be for work you did in 2007.

look4tay
You will get your 2006 tax return in 2007. When you file your taxes, it's always for the year before.

AM-NM centaur
The return labeled "2006 Form 1040" is for income incurred during the tax year 2006.
