if you have £6,000 or more in TOTAL saving from ALL accounts your not entitled to claim any benefits because your over the thresh hold, same as for housing benefit etc, they will not pay mortgages anyway

the best bet would get in contact with the job centre, they would give you a phone number to phone to see if your entitled to any benefit

if you are, then you can apply for council tax benefits and few others aswell

Actually the savings threshold is £16k NOT as low as £6k as someone mentioned. (I also know this as I looked it up and my partner is off work ill, my mother in law has £6,000 in savings and STILL GETS Housing benefit albeit reduced rate!!!!!)

At £6k *Some* benefits ARE affected and reduced NOT taken away completely!

At £16k your not likely to receive any benefits at all. Your allowed up to £6,000 in savings before it affects *some* benefits, after that money is deducted off those benefits and is taken at a higher rate the higher your savings. Once you hit £16,000 benefits stop altogether until your savings fall below the threshold!

You need to contact an official source on this and not rely on hearsay from the internet.

Benefit rules are complicated and people do not always get them right! It is also down to personal circumstances and what you can and can't claim!

Your partner *may* be able to claim SSP and after that possibly ESA (employment and Support Allowance, which replaces incapacity benefit)

I would really look on the DWP website and after that pop into your local job centre to see an advisor OR you can use entitledto.co.uk to check up what you may be able to get.

You can also contact your local CAB for help as well. Like I said, DON'T rely on people on the internet unless it's from on official website such as DWP!
