do they charge taxes when you buy something online?
I want to get something from guitar center but i dont feel like driving up there so i want them to ship it to my home but im just wondering if they also charge taxes. I have friends that have told me they've have bought things online without being charged taxes like you would if you get it from the store directly

If the store you're buying from has a physical presence in your home state, they're generally required to charge taxes when you buy on line.

Yes, some places do not require it but most do.

If it ships to a state with a sales tax, it is usually charged.

if the place you are buying the guitar from has a nexus in your state, yes sales tax will be added

If you buy it online from a business that is in your state, they do charge sales tax.

When you buy online from a business in another state that does not charge you tax, you are supposed to pay "use" tax to your own state (not everyone does).

Either way, the tax is the same as if you bought at a store in your own state.

many retail websites don't charge sales taxes. Even Amazon.com charges no sales tax. But most big stores like Walmart.com, Target.com etc charge you taxes.

Guitar Center is a relatively small outfit so they might not charge u taxes. I would say it's a 50% chance.

Just shop their site, and if they put tax on your order at the end, don't buy it if you don't want to.

By the way, you're technically supposed to pay taxes regardless, unless your particular state has no sales tax. You're suppose to say on your State Income Taxes that you bought XXX dollars worth of stuff online and you're supposed to voluntarily pay the tax if they don't charge you.

But i have a feeling, many people don't fully comply with this.
