Corals mommy
how do you track mileage?
im a mystery shopper, so i do a lot of driving to various places. i keep track of the odometer readings when i get in and out of the car for business purposes and anything in between i just mark as personal. but what exactly counts when i put the information on my tax return? basically i write when i leave the house to go to the location, the distance between each additional location, and the return trip home from the final destination.

example: xxx miles from home to shop a, xxx miles from shop a to shop b, and xxx miles from shop b to home.
Additional Details
I know if I hold two jobs as an employee then the commute from one job to the next is deductible. But I am an independent contrctor. Does that make any difference?

commuting is never deductible, that is when you leave home to go to the first place you actually work, all the rest are deductible

Bash Limpbutt's Oozing Cyst©
The first trip out at the beginning of the work day and the last trip home at the end of the work day are non-deductible commuting miles. The site-to-site miles in between are deductible. The same rules apply whether you are an employee or are self-employed.
