The employer pays unemployment tax to the federal goverment.
The federal goverment gives the unemployment money to the state to determine how the state will use the money. The state also can determine the amount of the tax (there is a standard amount, a higher tax if you have an excessive amount of claims, and then a reduced amount if you have no claims).
However, most states ran out of money in their unemployment buckets 18-36 months ago, so the federal goverment has had to supplement the money to cover the claims. |
